Hay There!

When presented with a new hay bale, it is important to acquaint oneself with it.

Then give yourself a good butt scratch against it.

A Bunch of Buntings

Painted Buntings, that is.

First, a young male, showing his cheekiness (that cheek patch color gives it away that he's a male).

This one's definitely a scrawny juvenile, but not sure if it is male or female.

This one is probably an adult female as her olive and green plumage seems pretty smooth and uniform.

Another few of superstar dad.

A bunch of baby buntings in the feeder bowl.

And a bunch of baby buntings working over the ground seed - looking almost like fallen leaves.

Two Texas Toads

Hunkered down in a pile of lumber.

No, that is not toad piddle. I had lifted a tarp off the wood and a few droplets of dew dripped down.

Not too happy to be disturbed.

Another little one on the deck.

Such a cutie.

Put a Fence In Front of It 17

This reminded me of the children's story, "The Three Billy Goats Gruff."
I took the first two shots from inside the car, even with the fence blocking part of the view.
Because I knew the moment I stepped out of the vehicle, someone would break concentration...

Whistlers on Wednesday 43

Yup, still pulling out photos from spring. These are from April when the pond was doing well.
I was shooting through some dried weeds. That's a turtle sneaking up onto the shore to eat the scratch feed I scattered there (turtles love cracked corn!)

Duck yoga?

A dirty look for the goofy show-off?

Definitely yoga skills...

More algae-covered turtles coming up.

Painted With Sunshine

More views of the Painted Bunting male. I have a bunch of photos of these guys, but I liked this set for the way the sunshine played across his bright back - sort of like highlighting the highlighter. :)

A juvenile flying in.
