Did She or Didn't She?

She did! Katydid! ;) This female Shieldback Katydid sat next to my chair on the front patio last week.

 Not bad detail...

Colorful Pond

Although the focus is not tack-sharp, I liked the vibrant colors enough to share these. I even liked the weeds in the foreground (which complicated focus efforts as the ducks swam). Wood ducks on the pond.

Good Fences #10

These Red Simmental cattle pasture down the road from us, in the same pasture as the dappled donkey duo I posted a couple of weeks ago (no doubt, the donkeys help guard the herd and protect the calves from coyotes.) They're not up next to the fence line very often, so even though the lighting wasn't great, I stopped and snapped some photos of them one afternoon.
Mr. Bull

A close-up of his back shows a rather crude looking 'brand' in the shape of a heart. It looks less like a true hot-metal brand and more like scar tissue from a knife, but I'm not a cattle expert. Either way, across his ribs, that had to hurt!
Not the prettiest heart, but I'm going to link in to Guest Heart Thursday with it anyway!
Some of his ladies and offspring.

Mama and calf. Cute little tyke!
Now the link-up!

Whistlers on Wednesday 77

Lunch line.

Recess afterwards - looks like Ring-Around-The-Rosy.
(For some reason, this photo disappeared from the post AFTER it was published. I added it back. Weird!)

Passing along a message from Jo, Stella and Zkhat of Jo's World.
Those of you who know Jo probably noticed she's been missing from Blogland.
She is well, just had her computer crash, got a new laptop and is trying to work the kinks out of
Windows 8.1 and Microsoft. She's having conflicts trying to get into her own blog to do a post.
In the meantime, she wanted to let you know she is fine, but that she lost all of her contact info
so if you want to drop her an email to reconnect, please do so.
(And if you don't have her email, I can send it to you.)

Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher

A cute male Scissor-Tail sitting on the power line.
The females' tails are not quite this long.

Bursting into song. To play their burbling voice, aptly described 'like a puppy playing with a squeak toy', click here.

 Cute little tough guy.

Retired from Service

This tank sits at the local Veteran's Memorial as a reminder of wars fought and those who served and sacrificed for our country.

Remembering, on this Memorial Day, those service men and women who did not return home and their families who lost so much.

Wildflower Catch-Up

April and May are peak wildflower months for the northeasterly part of Texas. If I don't pile these in now, they'll sit for months, taking up file folders on my laptop. So no whining, please! It'll be over soon enough...
Bluebonnets spread across the front hay pasture.

A few Indian Paintbrushes mixed in.

A thick carpet along the driveway.
A few Texas Stars pop up among the Bluebonnets.
Patches of Fleabane (with a fly visitor)

A Texas Dandelion
Ha! You just thought you were done with Bluebonnets and Paintbrushes!

Reminds me of the old Dodge commercials: Dare to be different!

Pink Evening Primrose

The Bluebonnets were just beginning to go to seed.
When the hay baler showed up (a bit early this year).

Rather looks like choppy waves. :)
These dried along the driveway.

I thought they were still beautiful.
They dried.

And got baled. Hope the cattle like them.
The Firewheels aka Indian Blankets began coming in in early May.

Nature's bouquet of Firewheels, Primrose and a few Sweetpeas
Okay, I'll stop with one more - for all of you whiners.
